Tonight I’ll be playing a funk & soul set at El Dorado Cocktail Lounge Downtown San Diego from 9:30-11.

Bernie Mac died from complications of Pneumonia yesterday. His comedy will be greatly missed.

I’ve been following this group called Pocket for about 3 or 4 years now. I first saw them play up in Carlsbad at what was then Neiman’s [now the Ocean House] and I was blown away at how good they were. I had never seen a local soul jazz band play, so I had to find out more about them. I started going to every show they played at, and even though they always played generally the same sets, the music was always amazing to listen to. I’d try to get friends to come out because explaining how good they were wasn’t enough. The friends that did come out agreed that Pocket was awesome, and the ones who didn’t come out will just never know. This is some old footage I took of Pocket playing at The Kava Lounge when they were playing there.
